Theatre challenge

Intended for those hungry for an independent weekly challenge, participants will be invited to create a 2-3 min video project based on a song from an album. The curator will email interested participants a specific song from the album and invite them to create any kind of piece inspired by that song.

Participants will email the finished pieces to the curator who will compile them into a visual album. From there it can be shared during a viewing party.

Participants: Up to 20 Participants, Unlimited Viewing Party Attendees
Time: 1 Viewing Party
Genres: Musical Theater, Great American Songbook Jazz Standards, 20th Century Pop: The Beatles, Queen, Stevie Wonder, 21st Century Top 40s, and others.

Possible Challenge:
The week before your (say for example) Beatles-themed Happy Hour, each participant will be emailed a Beatles song. During the mixtape, all participants would log onto Zoom, cocktail or mocktail in hand, the curator would introduce the works, “Hey everyone, thanks for joining. This week our contributors took the Beatles prompt and ran with it!  Enjoy their visual album!” Then the audience might watch a video of someone playing “Blackbird” on their guitar, an iPhone-filmed puppet show featuring stuffed animals underscored by the original “Yellow Submarine” track, someone dancing to “All You Need Is Love,” an interview with “Eleanor Rigby”, a beatnik poetry reading of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” a short quarantine diary film underscored by “Ob La Di Ob La Da” – the possibilities are endless. The point is to have some kind of unified source of inspiration and let the participants riff off of it and interpret it however they like. There should be a wide range of styles present in the videos as there is no incorrect interpretation of the prompt.
